jane_lenz4.jpgCedarhome Elementary 1st grade teacher Jane Lenz couldn’t hide her shock and excitement Wednesday morning as district cabinet members announced that she is the February Teacher of the Month!

Jane's colleagues wore big smiles as Kathie Norris explained why she nominated Jane for the award. “I think that all of us at Cedarhome would agree that Jane goes above and beyond each day to assure that her students have what they need to succeed, that her co-workers are supported and honored in their work, and that her school is a place where relationships, kindness, and caring are at the core.”

Jane’s nomination describes her as “one of those selfless people who is always at work behind the scenes positively influencing and inspiring the Cedarhome community.” Jane initiated and continues to organize the details for the annual grandparents and “grand-friends” day right down to the parking lot “greeters” accompanying guests to the front door with umbrellas when it is raining.  The nomination also noted Jane's gift as a first grade teacher and her ability to "orchestrate so many activities with patience and grace" as her first graders are busy learning.

The Teacher of the Month award will be given monthly during the school year thanks to a partnership between the Stanwood-Camano School District and the local Sterling Savings Bank and contributions from Maxime’s Restaurant and Stanwood Cinemas. The Teacher of the Month award recipient is selected from nominations that are reviewed by a committee of community members and one school district employee. As part of the award, Jane received a $50.00 gift card to Maxime’s Restaurant and two movie passes to Stanwood Cinemas.

Jane will be recognized as the February Teacher of the Month at the March 17, 2009 School Board meeting at 7:00 p.m. in the Stanwood-Camano School District Administration and Resource Center. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
