Due to school closure last March the Stanwood-Camano School District was unable to complete the assessment process for qualification for our Highly Capable program. We have been working with our testing vendor, Riverside Insights, to create a plan that will allow us to move forward this fall.

In mid-September we will be able to assess our students with the CogAt (Cognitive Abilities Test) remotely using their online testing platform. Students will be assigned a day and time in which they will complete their assessment while being proctored online. A limited number of in person appointments will be available for those students who do not have internet capacity to test at home.

Once all assessments are complete, our Highly Capable Committee will convene to determine which students meet criteria for placement into the program. Students would then have the choice to change classrooms and/or school to participate in Highly Capable services for the remainder of the school year or defer their enrollment to Fall 2021. We expect that classroom changes would take place during the month of October.

We understand that this extended timeline is not ideal for students and may cause some anxiety with making a change after the school year has begun. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we work through these required processes during this unprecedented time. If you have any questions please contact Teresa Haugstand at 360-629-1200.
