Student Recognition

Congratulations to Stanwood High School senior Emma Floyd, who was surprised yesterday with the announcement that she is a recipient of a $5,000 Dave Henderson Scholarship presented by Toys for Kids and the Smith Family Foundation.
Longtime Seattle Mariners play-by-play announcer Rick Rizzs, who co-founded Toys for Kids with Henderson, the former Mariners outfielder who passed away in 2015, presented the scholarship to Emma at SHS along with Dave’s wife Nancy Henderson. Emma was joined by her parents, Derek and Julie Floyd.

Emma plans to attend Willamette University in Salem, Ore., and study physical therapy. In her essay application for the scholarship, she described her desire to help other people with physical therapy as she has undergone two ACL surgeries herself. She will be honored with other Henderson Scholarship recipients at the Toys for Kids Winter Gala on Nov. 13. To learn more about Toys for Kids, visit
