MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 17, 2019, REGULAR BOARD MEETING
CALL TO ORDER
Al Schreiber, Board President, called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM in the Administration & Resource Center Boardroom.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Chad Lewis made a motion to approve the Agenda for the September 17, 2019, Regular Board Meeting.
Natalie Hagglund seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.
STUDENT ADVISOR OATH OF OFFICE
Al Schreiber administered the Oath of Office to incoming student advisors Aleena Wiegand, Stanwood High School, and Jacob Platt, Lincoln Hill High School. Mr. Schreiber congratulated and welcomed the new student advisors.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Julie Dean made a motion to approve the Minutes of the September 3, 2019, Regular Board Meeting. Natalie Hagglund seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.
SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Dr. Jean Shumate introduced the following reports:
Donations
Student Advisor Aleena Wiegand presented the following donations:
- $800.00 each to Utsalady and Cedarhome Elementary Schools from Martin and Minor Sahara Pizza for student enrichment, and
- $401.93 from Sound Water Stewards to cover field trip and substitute costs for Lincoln Hill High School's trip to Camano Island State Park, May 2019.
ENROLLMENT
Steve Lidgard, Executive Director of Business Services, reported on the September enrollment. The September 9, 2019, fourth day count was 4,597.65 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) and 167.65 FTE above the projected budget. Mr. Lidgard shared the past few years' cohort model was used for projecting enrollment and he will be looking into what drove this year's FTE amount above projected budget. Mr. Lidgard announced the next count day is October 1.
COLLECTIVE COMMITMENT
Dr. Shumate provided history on the district's work with the community to develop the Stanwood-Camano School District's Collective Commitment. She introduced Dr. Lloy Schaaf (Assistant Superintendent of Teacher and Learning) Dan Johnston (Executive Director of HR-Certificated), and Maurene Stanton (Executive Director of HR-Classified) and noted they will present updates on student programs and supports that align with the Collective Commitment and with goals set by the Board set last year. Board goals include communicating with stakeholders, ensuring budgets are in place to support programs, focusing on student achievement, and addressing student social and emotional needs. Lloy Schaaf, Dan Johnston, Maurene Stanton, and Ross Short, Director of Career and Technical Education, walked the Board through a PowerPoint and provided detailed information on the work happening in the three core areas of student support: academic, social and emotional. Discussion followed to include Dr. Shumate's acknowledgement of building principals for their work to support the Collective Commitment, and Julie Dean sharing she is proud to be part of a district that works hard to identify the need for every child and expressing appreciation to staff for their incredible amount of work.

STUDENT ADVISOR REPORTS
Jacob Platt reported that Lincoln Hill High School's Workforce Development started on September 9 and he heard it is going well; the food pantry is back up thanks to community donations; advisory talked about the Student Handbook and harassment, intimidation and bullying to make sure it doesn't happen; September 10 was open house and approximately 150 people attended; and ASB elections for first semester will take place on October 3.
Aleena Wiegand reported the first day at Stanwood High School went well and they did a morning greeting for everyone; leadership and Link Crew helped get students to class; the first assembly was September 13 and everyone was in spirit wear; September 9 was open house and a lot of parents met teachers; the first football game was September 6 against Jackson and went well; on September 6, during lunch, students did rock painting and bracelet making; and, Homecoming Week planning is currently taking place.
ITEMS BROUGHT UP BY BOARD MEMBERS
Natalie Hagglund thanked everyone for attending tonight's meeting, adding it is nice to be back in the swing of things - evening meetings and school - and the first couple of weeks have gone well. Ms. Hagglund welcomed Jacob and Aleena.
Julie Dean echoed Natalie Hagglund's student advisor welcome. She thanked everyone for the effort put forth to meet student needs, adding the district is always re-evaluating and an incredible amount of change has happened.
Chad Lewis welcomed the new student advisors.
Al Schreiber thanked Dr. Shumate and staff for the great work they do, adding it is amazing to see the great things that are happening. He added his welcome to Jacob and Aleena.

Al Schreiber adjourned the regular meeting at 6:48 PM
