MINUTES OF THE MARCH 19, 2019, REGULAR BOARD MEETING
CALL TO ORDER
Al Schreiber, Board President, called the meeting to order at 6:04 PM in the Administration & Resource Center Boardroom.
ROLL CALL
Board members in attendance were: Natalie Hagglund, Ken Christoferson, Chad Lewis, Julie Dean, and Al Schreiber. Student Advisor, Shawn Moyer was present and Trent Austin was absent.
FLAG SALUTE
Shawn Moyer led the Pledge of Allegiance.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Julie Dean made a motion to approve the Agenda for the March 19, 2019, Regular Board Meeting. Natalie Hagglund seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Julie Dean made a motion to approve the Special Minutes of the March 5, 2019, Audit Exit Conference. Chad Lewis seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously. Natalie Hagglund and Al Schreiber abstained.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Dr. Jean Shumate introduced the following reports:
DONATIONS
Shawn Moyer presented the following donations:
- The Stanwood-Camano School District received the following donations: a) $4,760.94 from Stanwood Elementary PTO for the installation of two ELKAY Enhanced Water Bottle Filling Stations at Stanwood Elementary, b) $1,846.10 from Port Susan Middle School PTO for two teacher stipends for the Robotics Club at Port Susan Middle School.
- TARGET's Field Trip Grants Program, Scholarship America, granted $700.00 to the Stanwood High School science program, in the name of teacher, Susan Britain.
- Dennis Newman, Crow Island Farms, donated $137.00 to the FFA Program at Stanwood High School and $163.00 to the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) at Stanwood High School
AWARDS
Shining Stars: Fallon Mydske - Saratoga School, Brock Berryman - Lincoln Academy, Gracie Jesse - Lincoln Hill High School.
Volunteers: Tasha Branch - Lincoln Hill High School/Lincoln Academy, Carol Frey - Saratoga School
Classified Employee of the Month: January - Kelli Zedwick, Stanwood High School (formerly Twin City Elementary) and February - Tia Hannawalt, Elger Bay Elementary,
Teacher of the Month: January - George Colby, Stanwood High School and February - Ellian Martin, Port Susan Middle.
Award of Honor: Keri Von Moos, Principal of Port Susan Middle School, was responsible for conducting the Heimlich Maneuver, which saved a child's life.
Principals, staff, and Board members recognized the recipients. The awards are sponsored by Heritage Bank, and Robert Wickstrom, Bank Manager, partnered with Dos Reales, Stanwood Cinemas, Twin City Lanes, and Klesick Farms.

Al Schreiber recessed the meeting at 7:05 PM to allow guests to depart.

Al Schreiber reconvened the regular meeting at 7:16 PM.
FINANCIAL REPORT
Steve Lidgard, Executive Director of Business Services, reported on the financial reports for the month of February. He reviewed the executive summary, the object summary, capital projects and the debt service funds.
BUDGET PROCESS
Steve Lidgard discussed the budget development process and the boards role and the budget development guidelines.
CONSENT AGENDA
Chad Lewis made a motion to approve Consent Agenda items, 1-6, listed below. Natalie Hagglund seconded the motion; it was voted on and approved unanimously.

STUDENT ADVISOR REPORT
Shawn Moyer reported on the Lincoln Hill High School activities. The new Associated Student Body officers start on March 28, soup day on Fridays continues and is doing well, a field trip to the Bellingham Technical School is planned, a pool table was donated for the commons area and graduation will be held June 20th at the Stanwood High School Performing Arts Center.
ITEMS BROUGHT UP BY BOARD MEMBERS
Ken Christoferson recognized the retirement of Joy Post, Secretary to Superintendent Jean Shumate. All board members responded with kind words.
Chad LÂÂÂÂÂÂÂewis inquired about the planned April 2, 2019, board retreat. Board members would send agenda items to be discussed at the board retreat.
Julie Dean enjoyed the awards and said that the study session about school safety was excellent. She announced that on Saturday, March 23, the public has an opportunity to meet local legislatures at Stanwood High School at 2:00 PM.
Al Schreiber appreciated the alternative programs and thanked Ryan Ovenell, Principal.
Superintendent Shumate stated that the bids for the alternative learning center was opened and the maintenance/technology project would go to bid in two months.

Al Schreiber adjourned the regular meeting at 7:35 PM.

STUDY SESSION
Al Schreiber called the study session to order at 5:00 PM. All board members were in attendance. Jean Shumate, Superintendent, thanked the guests and stated the purpose of the study session was to communicate what the district and schools are doing regarding school safety for our district, which is the top priority.
The following topics were discussed: Collective Commitment/ Board Goals, prevention, school-based social/emotional supports, preparedness, response, emergency kits, and future steps.
